The Advanced Practice Palliative Immersion (APPI) Training Program is designed for advanced practice providers seeking to enhance their communication and clinical management skills to better serve patients with complex, advanced illnesses. This course is ideally suited for individuals aspiring to or currently working in palliative care. However prior palliative care training is not necessary. Instruction is evidence-based and case-based.
Training includes clinical shadowing, full day conferences, communication skills training with simulated patients and a resilience workshop. Didactic sessions address assessment and management of pain and non pain symptoms, communication skills, palliative management of patients with cardiac disease, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer and neuropsychiatric symptoms, billing and documentation, and consult etiquette. Lectures are presented by expert faculty and include time for Q & A.
The APPI deepens providers’ ability to provide excellent supportive care in any practice setting. Our intimate, training cohorts foster networking and peer and faculty support and interaction. The APPI welcomes professionals willing to travel to attend.
